Jackson Hwu is a corporate attorney with more than 15 years of broad cross-border transactional experience representing major financial institutions and Fortune 500 companies. Jackson’s practice focuses on domestic and international corporate advising, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, and in real estate, immigration through investment (EB-5) and other legal matters for high net worth individuals and families.
He represents a number of technology companies from Latin America in developing and implementing their corporate structures to raise capital in the U.S. and abroad and in expanding their operations into the U.S. He also represents international companies in establishing operations in the U.S.
Prior to launching Private Advising Group, he acted as Deputy General Counsel for Dufry AG, a public Swiss travel retail company with global operations. Before that, he acted as Deputy General Counsel for the regional operations of Dufry in Latin America & Caribbean and Eurasia. Jackson advised the company in matters pertaining to business development, joint ventures and strategic alliances, mergers & acquisitions, trade & customs laws (duty-free regime), litigation and dispute resolution.
Earlier, Jackson acted as transaction counsel for a major Chicago-based financial services firm (Guggenheim Partners), where he focused on structuring investments for ultra high net worth individuals, corporate advising, fund formation and portfolio investments, and M&A. Jackson was a corporate associate at Sidley & Austin (Chicago), Barack Ferrazzano (Chicago) and Weil, Gotshal & Manges (New York) where he represented clients in a broad range of projects including mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity investments, financing, and equity offerings. He started his career as a capital markets counsel for Unibanco (now Banco Itaú-Unibanco) in São Paulo, Brazil.
